1980's

Kriss and Terry Wells in the Paddock at Santa Anita

Family fun weekends for Terry Sr., Martha and their boys was heading out to whatever Southern California racetrack was open. At that time, the So Cal circuit included Santa Anita Park, Hollywood Park and Del Mar. Los Alamitos for quarter horses. At this point we were purely spectators and wagered on our favorite picks.

1995

Love That Red Horse's pedigree

Terry Sr. takes the next natural step, becoming fascinated with horse racing progeny which ultimately leads them to breeding. They purchased a broodmare (Mother) Pat’s Lady Red and bred her to Sire/Father Highland Park. Pedigree wise Pat’s Lady Red was a descendant of Bold Ruler, the Sire/Father of Secretariat (the GOAT) and Highland Park was a descendant of Native Dancer aka “The Gray Ghost".

In naming the new foal (newborn) Martha Wells promises to “play off" the “RED” word in the Mother’s name Pat’s Lady Red and name the foal after the Revlon lipstick she wore in High School called “LOVE THAT RED”. Out pops a colt (boy) now with a lipstick name :-)
